Fans gave the Indian cricket team a hearty send-off after they defeated South Africa in the Twenty20 World Cup final in Barbados.On a specially scheduled charter flight, the exuberant cricket players touched down at New Delhi International Airport early on Thursday morning.
At the airport, hundreds of supporters gathered, screaming “India, India” and waving the national flag. Hurricane Beryl in Barbados forced a shutdown, delaying the team’s return from the Caribbean.

The cricketers flew to Mumbai to take part in an open bus roadshow, which was followed by a celebratory ceremony at the Wankhede Stadium, after meeting with India’s Prime Minister Narendra Modi in New Delhi.The winning team will get a financial prize of 1.25 billion rupees ($15 million) from the Board of Control for Cricket in India.

India had not won a World Cup since winning the 50-over format in 2011. This T20 victory was their first. Captain Rohit Sharma, leading batsman Virat Kohli, and Ravindra Jadeja declared their retirement from international Twenty20 cricket shortly after the win.
