The BCCI is planning a major transition in India’s T20I team over the next 24 months, with several senior players expected to be gradually phased out.
While the BCCI does not ask players to retire, it is understood that most senior players like Rohit Sharma, Virat Kohli, and Ravichandran Ashwin will focus more on ODIs and Tests in 2023, with only a handful of T20Is scheduled.
Rohit Sharma, who is currently 35, is not expected to lead the T20I team at age 37 in the next T20 World Cup. Ashwin and Dinesh Karthik have likely played their last T20I matches.

The BCCI will let Kohli and Rohit make the decision regarding their T20I careers, but a whole new T20I squad is anticipated, with Hardik Pandya selected as the long-term captain.
Despite the fact that these veteran players have been modern-day legends, head coach Rahul Dravid and the BCCI do not want to write them off too soon. Nonetheless, as India attempts to assemble a new T20I team for the future, the shift appears inevitable.
