South Africa Cricket Shakes Off ‘Chokers’ Tag: A New Era Begins

South Africa’s curse on ICC trophies has been lifted as they have advanced to the 2024 T20 World Cup final.

Against Afghanistan in the first semifinal, South Africa outplayed them, limiting them to just 56 runs. The bowling attack was spearheaded by pacers Marco Jansen and Tabraiz Shamsi, who both took three wickets and quickly destroyed Afghanistan’s top order.

South Africa’s batsmen, Reeza Hendricks and skipper Aiden Markram, handled the difficult surface with ease to achieve a comfortable nine-wicket victory, chasing the goal with 67 balls remaining, after losing opener Quinton de Kock early.

With this victory, South Africa not only advanced to their first-ever men’s World Cup final but also increased their winning streak in the competition to eight games. Their victory was so comprehensive that it demonstrated the total control they had over the game from beginning to end.

Known for their tense performances in pivotal games, South Africa played in a clinical and collected manner the entire time, dominating in all three areas of the game: batting, bowling, and fielding. With this victory, the Proteas have achieved a noteworthy milestone as they have finally broken their curse of not winning ICC trophies by making it to the T20 World Cup final.
